8th FEBRUARY 2015
FIRST INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER AND AWARENESS AGAINST HUMAN TRAFFICKING
IFCA joins in this initiative
This Day is promoted by the International Union of Superiors General (UISG and USG)
– with the support of the Congregations for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societes
of Apostolic Life – by the Pontifical Council of Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant
People and the Pontifical Council for justice and Peace.
The serious phenomenon of human trafficking concerns the whole world, particularly
the Christians.
Pope Francis recalled this phenomenon since his very first Easter message Urbi et Orbi
where he defines human trafficking as “the most widespread slavery of this XXIst
century!”. And he stressed it again in Evangelii Gaudium, where he says: ”I have
always been distressed at the lot of those who are victims of various kinds of human
trafficking. How I wish that all of us would hear God’s cry: “Where is your brother?”
(Gen 4:9). Where is your brother or sister who is enslaved? (…) The issue involves
everyone! This infamous network of crime is now well established in our cities, and
many people have blood on their hands as a result of their comfortable and silent
complicity”. EG 211
The International Forum of Catholic Action joins in this initiative and invites all the
national Associations to join also, to collaborate with the organisms who have
promoted it, by prayer, awareness and concrete actions in so many realities that are
facing us.
Catholic Action is aware, in all contexts where it is present and at all levels, of its
responsibility to intensify proposal and formative itineraries in order to help its
members to ascertain the causes of this phenomenon that blesses human dignity, to
denounce it firmly, to stir up a fraternal solidarity with those who suffer trafficking and
to help them to be fully integrated into society. This also is an aspect of the culture of
encounter that characterizes the CA en salida (which goes forth).
