22 July: liturgical feast of Saint Mary Magdalene Apostle of the apostles
On reading the Decree of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments of the 3rd June with which the liturgical commemoration of Saint Mary Magdalene has been elevated to a “feast” and above all the expressed desire of Pope Francis to research the motivations behind this (cf. https://press.vaticanva/content/salastampa/it/bollettino/pubblico/2016/06/10/0422/00974.html), our thought cannot but go to the Magdalene of the Garden where Jesus had been buried, and her exclamation “Rabbuni”, full of faith and joy, at the moment she recognised Him, whom she was still looking for among the dead.
On the day when the Church will be celebrating her liturgical feast for the first time on the 22nd July 2016, it will be nice to join in the “communion of saints” together with Saint Mary Magdalene and also together with the many other women who have believed, loved and announced our only Lord, women who have already heard their name pronounced by Jesus and who already live in peace with Him.
Let us dedicate this first feast to the many women in our family, in our associations, in our parishes and dioceses whom we have had the joy to know and appreciate and to whom we have wished well and from whom we had received so much good.
The proposal of IFCA is this: to participate in the celebration of Holy Mass on the 22nd July and thank the Lord for the great gift he has given us – together with so many others – when he permitted that on our way in life we have crossed for a while the way of some women who have inspired us in the choices of our life and have accompanied us and supported us on our way.In particular we would like to ask you to recall their names, with an intention in the prayers of the faithful.
