The date recalls the Meeting “Invocation for peace” promoted by Pope Francis on June 8 2014 in the Vatican Gardens together with the Israeli President (Shimon Peres), the Palestinian President (Abu Mazen), and with the Patriarch of Constantinople (Bartholomew I).

On Februry 4th in AbuDhabi, Pope Francis and the Great Iman of Al-Azhar Ahamad al-Tayyib signed the document on “Human Brotherhood for World Peace and common living”.
On June 8th 2019 we answer the invitation to widespread the knowledge od this document: Al-Azhar and the Catholic Church ask that this Document become the object of research and reflection in all schools, universities and institutes of formation, thus helping to educate new generations to bring goodness and peace to others, and to be defenders everywhere of the rights of the oppressed and of the least of our brothers and sisters.
It is significant that this meeting took place in Damietta during the VIII Centenary of St Francis’ meeting with the Sultan of Egypt Al-Malik Al-Kamel
HOW TO PREPARE FOR JUNE 8
first notice with some suggestions for your own creativity
It’s up to us! Let us involve people and spread this initiative to count an increasing number of MINUTES FOR PEACE worldwide.
How can we do it?
- Motivate all those who have peace at heart to participate in this initiative starting from our families, from Catholic Action’s members and involving all the people we meet in so many contexts of life.
- Propose on June 8, or around this date, meetings and gestures with the support of other associations, Christians of other confessions, believers of other religions or non-believers.
- Care about communications concerning these events on social sites and social media.
At the beginning of May the postcard “One minute for peace 2019” will be available together with other useful material to put into circulation on social sites and also to be printed.
